What to work out

Refrigerating effect (Q_L)

Compressor work / power input (W)

Result

Refrigerator COP

2.917

Equivalent EER: 9.952 BTU/h per W
Heat rejected at the condenser (Q_H): 4,700 W
Power input per ton: 1.206 kW/TR

Working

COP = Q_L ÷ W = 3500 ÷ 1200 = 2.917
EER = COP × 3.412 = 9.952
Q_H = Q_L + W = 4700 W

Formulas

COP_ref = Q_L ÷ W
COP_hp = Q_H ÷ W = COP_ref + 1
COP_Carnot,ref = T_L ÷ (T_H − T_L), COP_Carnot,hp = T_H ÷ (T_H − T_L) (T in K)
EER = Q (BTU/h) ÷ P (W), COP = EER ÷ 3.412

Q_L: heat taken from the cold space
Q_H: heat given to the hot space
W: compressor work or electrical input
T_L, T_H: evaporator and condenser absolute temperatures (K)

Assumptions

Steady operation; Q and W in the same unit (W here).
For Carnot, temperatures are in kelvin: K = °C + 273.15.
1 TR = 12 000 BTU/h = 3.517 kW; 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h; 1 kcal/h = 1.163 W.
