Following your service schedule
When to service is set by your bike's manual and service booklet; there is no one rule for every bike.
This guidance is general — not checked for any one model. Your bike's exact figures and procedures are in its owner's manual or at an authorised service centre.
When to do it
- A new bike's first free services
- At the distance or time in the manual, whichever comes first
What you need
- The service booklet or manual
Step by step
- 1
Open the maintenance table in the service booklet or manual; note each item's distance (km) and time (months).
- 2
Such tables usually cover engine oil and filter, air filter, spark plug, chain, brakes, clutch and valve clearance — but the intervals differ between bikes.
- 3
Dusty roads, heavy traffic or heavy loads are "severe conditions" in many manuals, with shorter intervals — check yours.
- 4
Record the odometer and the work in Bike Doctor's maintenance section, and set the next reminder.
Warnings
- Your bike's manual beats any "change oil every X km on every bike" rule from the internet.
Stop and see a mechanic if
- If the manual is lost, ask an authorised dealer or service centre for your model's schedule
Sources
- The owner's manual and service booklet: the only reliable source for your bike's figures and procedures.
